Probe officer arraigned by court for ruining cue
A special court on Monday held former SP, K.T. Michael, Crime Branch (CB) – Kottayam, on the charges of ruining evidence and conspiracy in 1993 when he headed the local unit of the CB probing Abhaya’s case.
The CBI said that DySP K. Samuel, who was Mr. Michael’s subordinate, had taken the evidence from the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) court and had not returned it “to screen the real culprits from being punished”. Abhaya’s diary, clothes and footwear worn by her at the time of her death went missing.
The CBI implicated Mr. Michael of having a close rapport with the convent and a sister from the convent had gone to Mr. Michael’s home to report that Abhaya was missing. N. Chandrasekharan Nair, counsel for Mr. Michael alleged Mr. Samuel to be responsible for the loss but there was clear- cut evidence on record that Mr. Samuel had returned the materials to the court.
Jomon Puthenpurackal, Civil rights activist had stirred the HC for the enquiry.
